2027, from the finish line
Plan your 2027 backward
Write December 31, 2027 as if it already happened. Then work back to one 45 minute step you can take this week.
Three steps
- Write the finish line. One sentence, past tense, dated December 31, 2027. "I saved three months of rent" beats "be better with money."
- Name what could stop you. The busy month, the tired evening, the old habit. Write it down now, while it is easy to see.
- Walk back to this week. Checkpoints for September, June and March, then one 45 minute action you can start before the year does.
How Start From Done helps
- It drafts the plan backward for you. Type your finish line and pick the date. The app lays out milestones back to your next 45 minutes, and you can change any of it.
- One 45 minute sprint at a time. Start a sprint from the plan, so the next step is always small enough to begin.
- A done list you can see. Each evening, log what you actually did. By March you have proof of progress, not just a feeling about it.
- An obstacle plan, written ahead. You name what could stop you and decide now what you will do when it shows up.
- Private, with a friend if you want one. Your journal stays on your device unless you choose to share it. Share only what you choose: invite a friend as your witness for accountability, and they can invite you back. They see your goal line and the steps you tick, never your journal.
The core loop is free. Some drafting and photo features are part of Pro.
Questions
Why plan 2027 backward instead of making a list of resolutions?
A list starts in January and grows. A backward plan starts at a fixed finish line, so every step has to fit the time you have. You end up with a short chain of checkpoints and one thing to do this week.
Do I have to wait until January 1 to start?
No. If you write your finish line in November or December, your first 45 minute step can happen before the year begins. January 1 is a nice landmark, not a starting gun.
What if I have more than one goal for 2027?
Pick one, two at most. Each goal needs its own chain of checkpoints, and more than two tend to fight for the same weeks. Keep the rest on a "later" list and look at it again at your March checkpoint.
Will this make my goal happen?
No app can promise that. Start From Done is a reverse planning and journaling tool: it helps you see the next step, take it, and keep a record of what you did. The doing is yours.
Is my journal private?
Yes. What you write in your journal stays on your device unless you choose to share it, and nothing leaves unless you choose to share it. If you want accountability, invite a friend as your witness. They see your goal line and the steps you tick, never your journal, and they can invite you to do the same for them.
